Obituary for Donald Q. Adams

Donald Q. Adams, 92, of Port Royal (Groninger Valley) and currently residing with his wife at Brookline Village, Mifflintown passed away on Friday, March 9, 2018, at the Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.

Born on June 15, 1925 in Fermanagh Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late D. Quincy and Isabel (Kauffman) Adams. On December 30, 1954 he married his surviving wife Margaret S. “Peggy” (Sieber) Adams with whom he was blessed to share more than 63 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife he is survived by, two daughters and their spouses, Mitzi Jacob and her husband David, of Folsom, CA, Susan Komlenic and her husband Rodney, of Mechanicsburg, a son; Donald Adams, of Harrisburg and eight precious grandchildren.

A brother, James C. Adams and a sister, Jane A. Leiby preceded him in death making him the last of his generation.

He was a 1943 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown, and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

His memberships included the Port Royal Presbyterian Church, Union Lodge No. 324 F&AM, Mifflintown, Harrisburg Consistory, A.A.S.R., Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Juniata Valley Forest No. 88, and the Zembo Shrine, Harrisburg.

Currently he had been serving on the Emeritus Board of Directors for the Pennian Bank, and previously had served as a Main Board Director of the First National Bank of Mifflintown. Also he had served on the Board of Directors of the Juniata County Agricultural Society.

In earlier life, he had served as a licensed auctioneer, with Backus Brothers Auctioneering Service; however, his passion was Holsteins and he became a registered Holstein breeder. Don was a lifelong dairy farmer, owning and operating, along with his wife, the DQA Farm, of Groninger Valley, Port Royal until its sale in 2014, the beginning of his semi-retirement. His dairy earned the title of Dairy of Distinction by the Pennsylvania Dairy of Distinction program and he was also a member of the Pennsylvania Holstein Association. In 2017, he reached the pinnacle of his career, when he was inducted into the Pennsylvania Holstein Hall of Fame.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 16, 2018, from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown, with Rev. Crystal M. Lyde officiating. Interment will follow in the New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.

Viewing will be held from 7 - 9 p.m., Thursday, March 15, 2018, at the funeral home.
