Obituary for Erma A. Diffenderfer (Nace)

Erma A. Diffenderfer, 87, of McAlisterville, passed away at 11:55 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at the Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown.
Born on August 4, 1930 in Cocolamus, Juniata County she was a daughter of the late Harry and Phyllis (Haubert) Nace. On August 15, 1954, she married her surviving husband, Robert Diffenderfer, with whom she was blessed to share more than 63 years of marriage.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Lon Diffenderfer and his wife Susan, of Thompsontown, Brian Diffenderfer and his wife Kelli, of Millersburg, Hope Burd and her husband Tony, of Mifflintown; sisters, Mary Ann Cieslar, of McAlisterville, Clara Fogleman, of Dillsburg; 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
One brother, Harry “Bus” Nace and a sister, Carol Sipe, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Diffenderfer was a member of the Brown’s United Methodist Church, McAlisterville, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir and served on the building committee. Erma loved her church and her family.
In earlier life, she was employed as a spreader for Lyon’s Fashions, McAlisterville and later for the East Salem Shirt Factory. Between her time at the factories, she was also employed as a bus driver; had served as tax collector for Fayette Twp., and was a cook in the Fayette Elementary School cafeteria. After retiring in 1992, she worked as a baker for the Family House Restaurant, Mifflintown.
Erma enjoyed bowling, keeping her garden and reading her bible; however she held a special place in her heart for her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11a.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from the Brown’s United Methodist Church, McAlisterville with Rev. Candace Arnold officiating. Interment will follow in the Brown’s United Methodist Cemetery, Cocolamus.
A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. on Thursday, until the time of service at the Church.
