Obituary for Betty R. Shirk

Betty R. Shirk, 90, of Mifflintown, died at 8:35 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.
Born on February 27, 1927 in Spruce Hill Twp., Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Homer and Lenna (Robinson) Wisehaupt. On February 14, 1947, she married her late husband, Louis A. “Lupe” Shirk, with whom she was blessed to share more than 63 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on November 23, 2010.
She is survived by her children, Suzanne Rutledge, of Mifflintown, Christopher Shirk and his wife Carol, of Licking Creek; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Shirk, of Lancaster; a brother, Edward Wisehaupt and his wife Betty, of Harrisburg and she leaves behind nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were, a son, Raymond “Rick” Shirk and a granddaughter, Heather Shirk.
Betty was a 1945 graduate of Lemoyne High School and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, New Bloomfield.
Until her retirement, she was employed as a seamstress for the Nettie Frocks Sewing Factory, Mifflintown.
Her hobbies included genealogy and reading as well as, word-search and jigsaw puzzles.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown, with Bishop Danny A. Cooper officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown.
Viewing will be from 12 noon on Tuesday until the time of service, at the funeral home.
