Obituary for Walter Russell Jones

Walter Russell Jones, 79, of Mifflintown passed away at 1:20 a.m. on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at the Geisinger-Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
Born on March 10, 1938 in Walker Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Jerauld Sr. and Nellie (Thompson) Jones. On August 2, 1958 he married his late wife, Thelma M. (Bossinger) Jones, with whom he shared more than 56 years of marriage, before she preceded him in death on December 25, 2014.
Surviving are his children, Sue Zook and her husband Joe, Sherry Allen and her husband Clarence, Cindy Hart, Nancy Coder and her husband Ed, Tim Jones and his companion Tonya Earhart, Wendy Sassaman, all of Mifflintown; siblings, Ruth Sheaffer, of Mifflintown, Jerauld Jones and his wife Glenda, Lynn Jones and his wife Anita, Rita Zeigler, all of Thompsontown, Jean Crawford and her husband Jim, of Mifflin, Larry Jones and his wife Roxie, of East Waterford, 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren as well as his loving cat Tommy.
One infant son, Stephen R. Jones, preceded him in death.
In 2000 he retired from Tri Angle Pacific Cabinet Corp., Thompsontown with 42 years of service.
He was a 1957 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown and he proudly served with the U.S. Army Reserves.
His memberships included the Union County Sportsman Club and the NRA.
Russell loved following the local dirt track racing, especially the Port Royal Speedway, having a love of the outdoors he enjoyed hunting, fishing, yard work and gardening; however his greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017 from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown with Mrs. Linda Fultz officiating. Interment will follow in the Locust Run Cemetery, Thompsontown.
Viewing will be from 10 a.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017 from the funeral home.
