Carlene S. Hack, 79, of Mifflintown, passed away at 1:50 a.m. on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at her home.
Born on July 7, 1938 in Fermanagh Twp., Juniata County she was a daughter of the late Carl R. and A. Ruth (Randolph) Sulouff. On June 6, 1960 she married her late husband, William H. “Bill” Hack, with whom she was blessed to share more than 41 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on October 12, 2001.
Surviving are her 4 daughters, Kimberly A. Lunger, Karen S. Hack, both of Mifflintown, Heidi H. Miller and her husband Dale, of Odenton, MD, Lydia L. Hack, Esq., of Shiremanstown; and 2 precious grandsons, Steven M. Ranck and his wife Melissa Wilson, of White Marsh, MD and Gregory W. Lunger, of Mifflintown; as well as her pride and joy, 2 great grandsons, Sean A. Ranck and Colin M. Ranck.
Her education included being a 1956 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown, then in 1960 she earned her B.S. from Juniata College, Huntingdon and in 1981 she earned her M.S. from Lincoln University, Lincoln University, PA.
Mrs. Hack led a life of service, both professionally and personally. From 1978 to 2008, Carlene was the executive director of the Mifflin-Juniata Area Agency on Aging. For over 35 years, she served as the “Fresh Air Fund” coordinator. She was a devoted girl scout for over 50 years, including many years of being a leader. Carlene served as the coordinator for the Mifflin-Juniata County Salvation Army Unit. In more recent years, she volunteered with both the Juniata County Food Pantry and the Juniata County Historical Society. In 1998, she was selected to be a delegate on a People to People trip to China.
Carlene enjoyed many hobbies, including cooking, knitting, quilting, reading and traveling. She was a member of several book clubs, the Juniata County Quilters Guild, the Matamoras Knitting Club and the Lewistown Knitting Circle.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2017 from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Graham C. Fowler officiating. Interment will follow in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.
A viewing will be held from 6 -8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 and on Thursday, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
