Obituary for Sara June "Sally" Ferster

Sara June “Sally” Ferster, 91, of Richfield went to be with the Lord at 4:12 a.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born on June 2, 1925 in Fayette Twp., Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Harry D. and Cora (Bergey) Landis. On June 15, 1946 she married her late husband Paul G. Ferster, with whom she was blessed to share more than 41 years of marriage, until he preceded her in death on October 28, 1987.
Surviving are her children, Susan M. Freed, of Evendale, Michael A. Ferster and his wife Sherry, of Freeburg, Nancy L. Risser and her husband Samuel, of Middleburg, Eric B. Ferster, of Selinsgrove; 9 grandchildren, Kirk Freed and his wife Renee, of McAlisterville, Jeremy Freed and his wife Rebecca, of Port Royal, Amelia Furman and her husband Timothy, of Loveland, CO, Jessica Napp and her husband Matthew, of Middleburg, Jed Risser and his wife Carole Ann, of Denver, CO, Aaron Ferster and his wife Jessica, of Denver, CO, Janelle Faust and her husband Benjamin, of New Berlin, Christopher Ferster, of Selinsgrove and Amanda Ferster, Selinsgrove; and great grandchildren, Carter Freed, Daniel Freed, Nathaniel Freed, Emerson Freed, Sophia Napp, Madyson Freed, Ethan Furman, Josilyn Napp, Rhea Risser, Lucas Furman, Addison Ferster, Thea Abdil and Roy Risser.
A son, James Ferster, a son-in-law, John D. Freed ,preceded her in death and she is the last of her generation having been preceded in death by 3 sisters, her infant twin, Kathryn June Ferster, Ruth “Skip” Frye, Vivian Pauline Babin and five brothers, Robert Herman Landis, Karl Landis, Reno Landis, Lester Landis and Bertram Landis.
Mrs. Ferster was a 1942 graduate of Fayette High School and a life-long member of the Richfield Life Ministries Church, where she served as choir member, church pianist, Nursery Superintendent, and pianist for the Primary S.S. department. She also sang in a ladies trio.
After graduating from high school, she went to work at the 5&10 cent store, in York, then to the Spicer Defense Plant, Pottstown and later as a seamstress and secretary for the Shellenberger and Sons Shirt Factory, Richfield.
Sara June enjoyed crocheting, reading, playing the piano and painting; but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017 from the Richfield Life Ministries Church, Richfield with Pastor Aaron Benner and Rev. Jerry R. O’Connell officiating. Interment will follow in the Richfield Union Cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service, Friday at the Church.
