OBITUARY NOTICE
DORIS F. SANKEY

Doris F. Sankey, 89, of East Salem passed away at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown.
Born on March 11, 1928 in Monroe Twp., Juniata County she was a daughter of the late Paul, Sr. and Pearl (Shadel) Garman. On December 19, 1948 she married her late husband, Richard J. Sankey with whom she was blessed to share more than 67 years of marriage, until he preceded her in death on May 1, 2016.
She is survived by her children; Susan Leister and her husband Roy Jr., of East Salem, Donna Tusing and her husband James Sr., of McAlisterville; siblings, Lila Burris, of McAlisterville, John Garman and his wife Connie, of Galeton; a brother-in-law Delbert A. Sankey and his wife Eleanor, of Middletown; grandchildren, James Tusing and his wife Kimberly, Heidi Tebbe and her husband Brian, Patrick Leister, Joseph Tusing and his wife Holly; great grandchildren, Trey and Olivia Tusing, Hope, Lydia and Sarah Tebbe and Ainsley Tusing.
A great grandson, Cullen Tusing, a sister, Betty Troutman, and a brother, Paul Garman, Jr., preceded her in death.
Mrs. Sankey was a 1945 graduate of Freeburg High School and an active member of the East Salem United Methodist Church, where she held many different offices in the administration of the church, including Sunday school teacher and the United Methodist Women. She also volunteered with many organizations, such as Abundant Blessings, Juniata Meals on Wheels, Delaware Twp. Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary and was a Girl Scout leader. She along with her husband had a personal mission to read to the blind and visit people convalescing at home and in nursing homes.
In earlier life, Doris worked at the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot and later owned and operated Sankey’s Community Store, along with her late husband, Richard, in East Salem from 1949 until it’s closing in 1982.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2016 from the East Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joseph Yorks officiating. Interment will follow in the Goodwill Cemetery, Bunkertown.
Viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service, at the church.
