Grace E. Slagle, 95, formerly of Liverpool passed away at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at the Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown.
Born on September 9, 1921, in Walker Twp., Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Elmer G. and Sadie (Varner) Naylor. On October 15, 1937 she married her late husband Elwood A. Slagle, with whom she was blessed to share more than 74 years of marriage, until he preceded her in death on May 16, 2012.
Surviving are her children, Jack Slagle and his wife Sue, of Mountain Grove, MO, Nancy Strawser, of Liverpool, Dorothy Reitz, of Thompsontown, Betty Smith and her husband Dave, of McAlisterville, Deb Ferry and her fiancé Thomas Yoder, of McAlisterville, Jeff Slagle, of Harrisburg, Mike Slagle, of Mifflintown; siblings, Minnie Snyder, of Paxtonville, Beulah Powell, of Selinsgrove, Mae Riegle, of Paxtonville, and Charlotte Felmey, of Peoria, IL. She also leaves behind, 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Slagle, in infancy, and a daughter, Blanche Hile, a grandson, Charlie Hile, 2 great granddaughters, Courtney B. Houser and Rachael Nicole Ehrisman, a son-in-law, Paul Strawser; as well as 6 brothers and 4 sisters.
Grace was a homemaker, who enjoyed putting puzzles together, watching and feeding birds and tending the flowers in her garden. She was also well known for her baking, especially apple pies; but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
A graveside memorial service and interment will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2017 from the Lost Creek Mennonite Cemetery, Oakland Mills with Pastor Savilla Peachey officiating.
