Obituary for John W. Mangle

John W.   Mangle
John W. Mangle, age 89 of Thompsontown, PA, passed away November 27, 2016 at home.
Born April 11, 1927 at home on a farm R.D. Thompsontown, Juniata County, he was a son of the late William Thomas and Nancy Mabel (Leonard) Mangle. He is survived by his wife Bertha Pauline (Klase) Mangle, who he married on December 10, 1944.
Surviving are his children, John W. Mangle and his wife Theo, of Dauphin, Robert Mangle and his wife Aida, of Friendswood, Texas, Shirley Jane Spade and her husband Randy, of Thompsontown; a sister, Wilma Jane (Mangle) Dietz, of McAlisterville; 6 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three children, Timothy Charles Mangle, Carol Jean Mangle, Bonnie Lou (Mangle) Faltine, also four brothers, Charles, Ray, Penrose & Marlin Mangle.
John completed eighth grade in Juniata County Schools, passed the test to go to High School but decided to go to work instead. On August 27, 1943 he was employed as a Drill Press operator at Jackson Manufacturing/True Temper, Harrisburg, and retired as the Asst. Foreman on April 30, 1989. After retiring, he operated a sharpening service and machine shop.
Mr. Mangle is a 50 year member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge 925, Millerstown and a long-time member of the Owls Club, Newport.
He was an avid hunter, beekeeper, and enjoyed tinkering and repairing things around his home.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville with the Rev. Barbara Yorks officiating. Interment will follow in the New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.
A viewing will be held from 4 – 8 p.m. with family present from 6 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2016 and from 10 a.m. until the time of service, both at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Locust Run United Methodist Church, 25 Locust Run Rd, Thompsontown, PA 17094-8569 or Moose Charity's, 155 North International Drive, Mooseheart, IL 60539.
