Obituary for Hazel M. Dougherty

Hazel M. Dougherty, 91, of Ickesburg, died at 1:20 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle.
Born on August 15, 1925, in Quincy, Franklin County, she was a daughter of the late Francis and Zelda (Rider) Gibbons. On July 29, 1944, she married her surviving husband J. Wilson Dougherty, with whom she was blessed to share more than 72 years of marriage.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Barry Dougherty and his wife Barbara, of Ickesburg, Kathy Swartz and her husband Larry, of Gardners, Linda Shover and her husband Tom, of Carlisle, a daughter-in-law, Fern Dougherty, of Loysville a brother, Glenwood Gibbons and his wife Virginia, of Chambersburg, 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 3 step- great-grandchildren.
A son, John W. Dougherty, a brother, Eugene Gibbons and a sister, Bernice Knepper preceded her in death.
Mrs. Dougherty was a 1943 graduate of Fannett Metal High School and she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mifflintown.
In earlier life she was employed by the Letterkenny Army Depot, after which she was a homemaker raising her children. After the children were raised she was employed by Pebb Manufacturing, Ickesburg.
Hazel loved sewing, raising flowers and tending to her garden. One of her greatest joys was making jelly for her grandchildren for which they will always remember her.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown with the Pastor Ronald Shupe and Pastor Phil Persing officiating. Interment will be in the McCulluch’s Mills Cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. on Wednesday, until the time of service
at the funeral home.
