Obituary for Earl G. "Whitey" Lawson

Earl G. “Whitey” Lawson, 84, of Mifflintown died at 1:55 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at the Mt. Nittany Medical Center, State College.
Born November 15, 1931, in Lack Township, Juniata County, he is the son of the late C. Brooks and Ernestine (Krick) Lawson. On November 5, 1966 he married his surviving wife; Mona S. (Swartz) Lawson with whom he was blessed to share almost 50 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Janice Darrow, of Mifflintown; 2 brothers, John B. Lawson, of Reeds Gap, Robert P. Lawson, of Walnut, 4 grandchildren, Teri Fetterolf, Mark Fetterolf, Jodi Fizgerald, Jill Fetterolf, his beloved great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A brother, Ernest Lawson, 3 sisters-in-law, Jean Lawson, Maxine Lawson, Sis Lawson and a niece Deborah Lawson all preceded him in death.
Mr. Lawson was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown and he proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
In earlier life he worked on the pipe line, after which he co-owned the Atlantic Station on Old Rte. 22, Mifflintown following this he owned and operated a well-regarded excavation and snow removal business for which he shall long be remembered.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2016, from the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Nook, with the Rev. Charles Hershberger officiating and where full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
There will be no viewing.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.
The family will provide all funeral flowers and kindly ask that memorial contributions in Mr. Lawson’s memory be made to the charity of one’s choice.
The family would also like to extend a special thank you to the friends, neighbors and caretakers who were there in his time of need.
