Obituary for Marian L. "Dolly" Auker (Auker)

Marian L. “Dolly” Auker, 87, of Mifflintown, died at 12:15 a.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2015, at the Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown.
Born on December 3, 1927, in Fayette Twp., Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Effie (Kauffman) Auker. On March 19, 1950, she married her late husband, R. Lavon Auker, with whom she was blessed to share nearly 63 years of marriage until he preceded her in death on February 27, 2013.
Surviving are: three sons; Robert P. Auker, Sr. and his wife Joyce, of Mifflintown, Steven J. Auker and his wife Farrah, of Port Royal, Daniel C. Auker and his wife Brenda, of Mifflintown; a former daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Auker, of McAlisterville; she leaves behind 10 grandchildren, Tammy Haas, Shelly Gerberich, Robert Auker, Jr., Amy Zeigler, Joni Auker, Kyle Auker, Kelsey Auker, Isabella Auker, Brent Auker and Eli Auker, as well as 8 great grandchildren and one step-great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kayla E. Auker and is the last of her generation having been preceded in death by her siblings, Wilbur Auker, Stanley Auker, Helen Varner and Evelyn Auker.
Marian was a 1945 graduate of Fayette High School, McAlisterville and a 1947 graduate of the Lewistown School of Nursing. She was also a member of Lauver’s Mennonite Church, the coordinator for the Fresh Air Fund and served on the first board of directors of Abundant Blessings.
Mrs. Auker was employed as an RN at the Lewistown Hospital, served as a private duty nurse and then worked at Brookline Manor. She also helped her husband, Lavon, with many of the duties on the farm.
“Dolly” was a great cook who was known for canning applesauce. She also loved gardening and having coffee with friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, from the Lauver’s Mennonite Church, Evendale with Pastor John Gehman and Pastor Glenn Lauver officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
Viewing will be from 4 - 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service, Wednesday, at the church.
