Lenus I. Troup, 83, of Millerstown (Seven Stars), died at 8:35 p.m. on Monday, September 28, 2015 at the Kinkora Pythian Home, Duncannon.
Born on April 29, 1932, in Greenwood Twp., Juniata County, he was a son of the late William E. Sr. and Kathryn M. (Dressler) Troup. On September 9 1953, he married his surviving wife, Helen I. (Lindsey) Troup, with whom he was blessed to share more than 62 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Donald E. Troup and his wife Judy, of Maze, Ronald L. Troup and his wife Lucille, of Millerstown, Robert D. Troup and his wife Dawn, of Richfield, JoAnn L. Bason and her husband Bradford, of Danville; a brother, William E. Troup, Jr., of Seven Stars, 13 grandchildren, Jamie Snyder, Jessica Spade, Jaclyn Troup, Nathan Troup, Mitchell Troup, Lindsey Franson, Meghan Troup, Alexander Troup, Kathryn Miller, Elya Kerstetter, Eric Troup, Matthew Bason, Elizabeth Bason and 6 great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was a sister, Wilma Benner.
He was a 1950 graduate of Millerstown High School and a member of the Turkey Valley United Methodist Church, Millerstown, where he served as Sunday school teacher and superintendent, and on the Administrative Council as well as on the Pastor Parrish Relations Board.
Mr. Troup proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
In the late 1950’s he took over the family business, Troup Brothers and Benner Store until 2004, a business that had been in his family for more than 100 years. He also co-owned and operated the Seven Stars Arctic Cat Dealership.
Lenus enjoyed going out to eat and going on cruises with his wife Helen. He also loved to ride snowmobiles and motorcycles and played on the church softball team; however, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 5, 2015 from Turkey Valley United Methodist Church with Rev. Sal Buonocore officiating. Interment will follow in the Maze Cemetery, where the Juniata County Veterans Council will accord full military burial honors.
