Robert C. "Bob" Varner, 77, Richfield, PA, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015 at his home.
Born June 19, 1938, in Fayette Twp., Juniata Co., he was the son of the late John J. and Leona I. (Landis) Varner.
His wife Maxine G. (Whitesel) Varner, whom he married November 24, 1956 and shared nearly 59 years of marriage, survives.
Also surviving are: daughters, Janice E. Reisinger and husband Greg of McAlisterville, Ann M. White and husband Mike of Rawlings MD; sister, Ruthann Benner of McAlisterville; grandchildren, Michael A. White II and wife Tesha, Amanda White; great grandchildren, Aubrie and Elias White.
Robert was a 1956 graduate of East Juniata High School, Cocolamus.
Mr. Varner proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 until 1960. Later he joined the National Guard in 1983 and was recalled to active duty during Operation Desert Storm, retiring in 1999 with 20 years of service. During his time in the military he loved working on airplanes.
Bob worked his own farm for 16 years, while holding various jobs including driving truck for Noerr's Trucking, Carolina Freight, and retiring from Hacks Trucking, Mexico.
Mr. Varner attended Niemonds Independent Church, Richfield.
He was a member of: The Eastern Aircraft Association; The Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 925, Millerstown; J.E. Bowen Jr. AMVETS Post 122, Thompsontown; The American Legion Post 177, Newport; and The VFW Post 6631, Selinsgrove.
Bob enjoyed reading, carpentry, hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends.
A funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 2015, from the Niemonds Independent Church, 36964 Route 35, Richfield with Pastor J. Arthur Mott and Pastor Steven Osenga officiating. Interment will follow in the Goodwill Cemetery, Bunkertown, where full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
Viewing will be held from 4 - 8 p.m. with family present from 6 – 8 p.m., on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville.
