Elmira R. “Sis” Niman, 77, of Mifflintown, (Arch Rock) died at 8:25 a.m., Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at her home surrounded by her family.
Born on July 14, 1937, in Mifflin, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Russell B. and Carrie (Kepner) Henderson. Her late husband of more than 53 years, Robert E. Niman whom she married on March 16, 1955, preceded her in death on December 26, 2008.
Surviving are: her children, Kathy Gilson and her husband Gregory, of Mifflin, Scott Niman and his wife Dorothy, Christine Goshorn and her husband Donald, Jr., Mark Niman and his wife Carolyn, all of Mifflintown, Debra Niman and her companion Scott Kline, of Millerstown, a brother, Russell D. “Pete” Henderson and his wife Gail of McAlisterville, 13 grandchildren, Tyler Gilson, Tricia Gilson, and Tessa Gilson; Alisha Niman, Michael Niman and his wife Heather and Caitlin Niman; Donald Goshorn, III and his wife Beth, Jonathan Goshorn; Carly Niman, Crista Niman, Justin Hoover, Shawna Hoover and Eric Gagnon and his wife Jackie. She also leaves behind 14 great-grandchildren, Alayna, Landon, Jaxton, Wesley, Gavin, Cayne, Isabelle, Zoey, Morgan, Davin, Oscar, Jerrick, Baylee and Teagan.
She was a 1954 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown and in earlier life had worked at Juniata Garments, Mifflin after which she had worked at Don’s Fruit Market, Mifflintown.
“Sis” enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers and she loved all animals especially her dog Sassy and her Yellow-Naped Parrot Kiwi. Being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother she loved being a homemaker most of her married life who always enjoyed her family and friends.
Services will be private and interment will be in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.
