MIFFLINTOWN, Frank Neimond, Jr., 87, of the Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown and formerly of Cocolamus, died at 10:58 a.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Brookline.
Born April 3, 1926 in Monroe Twp., Juniata County he was the son of the late Frank Neimond and Mazie (Frymoyer) Neimond-Auker. On June 21, 1944, he married Vivian M. (Hamilton) Neimond, with whom he shared more than 60 years of marriage, before she preceded him in death on September 9, 2004.
Surviving are his children, Daniel L. Neimond and his wife Donna, of Lewisburg, William F. Neimond and his wife Linda, of Mill Hall, Nancy L. Shirk and her husband Leister, of Gillett, Joyce M. Hart, of McAlisterville; and he leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 1 step great-grandchild and 1 step great-great-grandchild.
Preceding him in death are one son, Alan E. Neimond, one grandson, one great-grandson and he is the last of his generation, having been preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Strawser and Ruth Apple.
Mr. Neimond was a member of Brown’s United Methodist Church, McAlisterville where he had served as a Sunday school teacher. He was also a 33rd Degree Mason belonging to the Tennis Lodge 371 F&AM, Thompsontown, and the Harrisburg Consistory.
In earlier life, Frank was a self-employed dairy farmer and farm machinery salesman for the local International Harvester/Case dealership. Later he started driving truck as a full time owner/operator until returning to the farm machinery dealership prior to his retirement.
Frank proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, during WW II.
He enjoyed hunting as well as watching baseball and football on TV, but he held his greatest joy for spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 from the Brown’s United Methodist Church, Cocolamus with the Rev. Candace Arnold and Rev. Ronald E. Landis officiating. Interment will follow in Niemond’s Cemetery, Richfield where full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
A viewing will be held from 4 – 8 p.m. with family present from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville. There will be no viewing at the church on Wednesday.
