Obituary for John S. Yetter Jr.

John S.  Yetter Jr.
MECHANICSBURG, John S. Yetter, Jr., 94, of Mechanicsburg, died at 10:15 a.m., on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at his home.
Born August 24, 1917, in Mifflintown, Juniata County, he was a son of the late John S. and Olive (McCan) Yetter, Sr. On June 12, 1942, he married Maxine E. (Van Sweringen), with whom he spent nearly 64 years of marriage, before she preceded him in death on January 10, 2006.
Surviving are his children, Gayle L. Smith and her husband Clarence of The Villages, Florida, Gary J. Yetter, of Mechanicsburg, siblings, James I. Yetter, of Mifflintown, Helen Woods, of Hershey, Nellie Hale, of Chambersburg, Paul Yetter, of Harrisburg, also two grandsons, Captain Rick J. Stoner and his wife Denise, David L. Stoner and his wife Michelle, and he leaves behind four great-grandchildren.
He was a US Navy veteran having served his country during WWII and during his enlistment he participated in the Invasion of Normandy.
Mr. Yetter was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Mechanicsburg and the Perseverance Lodge # 21 F &AM, Harrisburg.
In 1981 he retired as a heavy equipment operator from James Julian of Delaware and after retiring he worked for 18 years as a truck driver for his son in law at C.G.R.Smith, Inc., Harrisburg
John was a people person who loved to play games with his family and friends. He was an avid reader, whose love of the outdoors was evident in his passion for hunting, fishing and working in his yard. He enjoyed traveling and was very proud of the fact that he had visited Alaska on 16 different trips.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 25, 2011, in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown where the Juniata County Veterans Council will accord full military burial honors.
